RENO, NV – A 6-year-old girl died after the vehicle in which she was a passenger was struck by a driver fleeing from police, reports KOLO.
The crash happened in Northeast Reno at the intersection of 9th Street and Sutro Street at around 8:20 p.m. Wednesday evening. The suspect, Jesse Bennett, 33, of Eugene Or., was arrested afterwards. His passenger escaped custody and is still on the loose.
According to authorities, Bennett was driving a 2007 Scion when police attempted to stop him because of his felony warrants from Oregon. He fled the scene and ran a red light, colliding with a 2003 Honda Accord in the process. The 6-year-old girl was in the Honda and died from her injuries.
Bennett and an unidentified passenger ran away following the crash. Though his passenger wasn’t caught, Bennett was apprehended and faces multiple charges, including DUI and drug possession. The whereabouts of the passenger are unknown at this time.
